MEDICAL SKIN PEELS
Medical skin peels can assist with a wide range of skin concerns such as scarring, acne, age spots, uneven skin tone and improvement of fine lines and wrinkles.
Most of us have experienced a skin peel, right? Or maybe you hear the word peel and think oh no its not for me! I promise they aren't scary and you will love it!
Put simply, skin peels clear away old skin and stimulate the regeneration of new skin. The renewed skin is then clearer, smoother and more even.
There are basically three levels of peels: superficial, medium depth and deep.
Superficial peels penetrate into the upper layers of the skin called the epidermis, removing old skin cells from the surface. Perfect for events, parties or if you just need 'Zhuzh up'. You may experience some roughness day three or "fairy dust" we like to call it, which is easily removed with an enzyme mask.
Medium depth and deep peels penetrate below the epidermis. These deeper peels induce a controlled wound to the dermis that will begin a healing response that results in a more aesthetically pleasing skin. Downtime can usually take up to 14 days.
We do offer deep peels that will give you that snake like peeling and your skin will fall off in chunks but they are only prescribed to clients with specific needs.
We use different types of peels in our clinic. GlyMed Plus' Australia award-winning Chemical Exfoliants and Peels! Some peels have been compounded and specially created by Creative Skin and Laser to target specific concerns. Some of the peels on offer require a prescription from a GP!
Their potency can be dialled up or down to suit different skin types, so there really is a peel for everyone and every concern. They’re also one of the most affordable and effective ways to dramatically improve your skin.
TYPES OF PEELS
GLYCOLIC ACID
Derived from Sugar Cane
Glycolic acid has the ability to break down the bonds between the cells, loosening the very top layers of the skin, and causing exfoliation. Glycolic acid also stimulates collagen growth.
LACTIC ACID
The Milk One
Lactic acid A-hydroxy acid that is found in milk and sugars. It breaks bonds between cells to allow for easier exfoliation of surface skin cells while hydrating the skin. It also functions as a pigment blocker by suppressing the formation of tyrosinase.
SALICYLIC ACID
The Plant and Bark One
Salicylic acid is classified as a B-hydroxy acid. It has multiple benefits and uses. It loves to dissolve lipids (sebum) and helps loosen excess redundant skin cells. It decreases the abnormal shedding of cells within the follicles, reducing the impactions that can exacerbate breakouts and reduce inflammation. Perfect peel for acne prone clients.
ENZYME PEEL
The Fruity One
Enzyme Peels made up of fruit enzymes usually pineapple, papaya and pumpkin. They provide a very gentle way of removing redundant skin cells by digesting the extracellular glue that hold the skin cells together without destroying young healthy cells. Great for all skin types.
JESSNER'S PEEL
The Bitey One
Jessner's solution is unique in that it combines multiple chemical exfoliators in one peel. The traditional Jessner peel combines salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol. This peel stimulates the deeper dermis level of the skin and causes new fibroblasts and collagen to develop, puffing out lines and wrinkles caused by ageing. It is also used to treat sun-damaged skin, hyperpigmentation (melasma) and contributes to the healing of acne.
TRICHLOROACETIC ACID (TCA)
The deeper one
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel.
The potent, fast acting benefits of Trichloracetic Acid exfoliate the skin at a dermal level. TCA peels are a very popular and powerful skin resurfacing treatment. This treatment can address many extreme cases of photo-ageing skin such as pigmentation, fine line and wrinkles, enlarged pores and thickening of the skin. It is also used to treat acne scarring.
KOJIC ACID
The Fungi One
Kojic acid an antibacterial agent and pigment forming inhibitor. It has the ability to interrupt the enzyme activity responsible for distributing pigment making it highly effective in reducing hyperpigmentation.

Before your skin peel treatment in our Dubbo Skin and Laser Clinic, you’ll have an in-depth consultation to help create a personalised treatment plan for you. This is based on an assessment of the treatment area, as well as your medical history. Client safety and care is of the utmost importance to all of us, and therefore this will ensure your happiness and well-being, and that you receive the results you deserve.
What to expect
A specific skin peel will be chosen based on:
1. Your skin health
2. How prepped your skin is
3. Your primary concerns
We will cleanse and sterilise the skin. The chosen peel will be applied in a methodical manner. You may experience tingling, biting, itching or heat, these are al normal response, in fact it is a great sign!
Most peels only stay on the skin for 2-20 mins depending on what peel is being performed. We also have a cooling system and fans to help with any discomfort.
After the treatment we will apply hydration and SPF.
The entire treatment takes 20 to 45 minutes.
Post-treatment
Your skin will feel immediately smoother and will appear visibly brighter. You may experience mild redness that will resolve within an hour.
Depending on the peel depth, you may experience ‘rough’ or ‘sandy’ at day 3-5, easily removed with an at home enzyme mask.
Clients may also experience “purging”. Chemical peels actively speed up the process of the skin cell turnover helping to reveal healthier skin cells, but not without first “purging” all the gunk that was residing underneath your skin. This gunk includes a build-up of dry skin, trapped makeup, pollutants and excess sebum. Purging presents usually in the form of breakouts, but usually heal a lot quicker than a regular breakout. We’ve all heard the saying ‘it gets worse before it gets better’.
It is important to remember not to touch or pick at these breakouts! It will improve over time and remember consistency is key when working towards your skin goals.
Depending on the chosen peel, generally there may some downtime, we will advise you before any treatment is performed, most peels you will be able to resume daily activities straight away.
Number Of Treatments
If you are looking a ‘spruce up’, one skin peel may be enough to give your skin a natural dewy glow, but if you are looking to improve your overall skin health, a course of treatments are recommended usually 6-8 with maintenance recommended every 4 weeks and can be done in combination with many of our other treatments to intensify results. This treatment program is only a guide and will differ.
